What is the last day to earn res college points?

The last day to earn res college participation points is Friday, March 14, 2025. 

How do I participate in Res College Room Selection?

  • Each RC will send Residential Services a list of all current RC residents and non-residents with their point total noted. RS will sort students by those points to determine who can participate in RC room selection based on how many students are allowed to return to each res college. 
  • All students who are eligible to return will receive a time slot to participate in Res College Room Selection on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.  

I currently live in a res college, but I do not wish to return to my res college next year. What do I do?

You should indicate that you will not be returning to your res college during phase one of Returning Student Room Selection. There is a question that will ask you if you plan to return to your res college or not. If you say no, then you will participate in the general room selection process either on 3rd and 4th year student day or 2nd year student days depending on your housing year. 

I currently live in a res college, but I will not be on campus for Fall 2025. What do I need to do if I want to return to my res college after Fall Quarter?

  • Rising 2nd Year – you will need to complete a contract in March, so that we can track your submission due to the residency requirement. You will be asked if you will be away for Fall 2025 due to an internship, study abroad, CFS, etc. to which you must say yes. You will need to complete a contract for Winter 2026 on or after November 1, 2025. If you say you would like to return to your res college, we will share that information with the faculty chair who will approve or deny your request. If approved, you will be placed there if there is a bed space available in the res college. If you are denied or there are no spaces in your res college, you will be placed in a different building. 
  • Rising 3rd or 4th year – you will not complete a contract in March. You will need to complete a contract for Winter 2026 on or after November 1, 2025. If you say you would like to return to your res college, we will share that information with the faculty chair who will approve or deny your request. If approved, you will be placed there if there is a bed space available in the res college. If you are denied or there are no spaces in your res college, you will be placed in a different building. 

I am a current res college resident, what happens if I do not select a room on Res College Room Selection Day?

If you do not select a room during RCRS, you will be issued a new time slot to participate in either 3rd & 4th Year Day (April 10) or during 2nd Year days (April 15-17) depending on your housing year. 

If I select a room during Res College Room Selection, and I wish to change rooms, how would complete this process?

You will need to wait until the entire Returning Student Room Selection process is complete. All room assignments will be confirmed by April 28, 2025, and the room change waitlists will open on the same day. Our office may process room changes in Spring Quarter, but the majority of room changes will likely occur in the Summer. Students will always be notified via email if their room assignment changes. 

Residence Halls (General Process)

I currently live on campus, but I will not be on campus for Fall 2025. What do I need to do if I want to return to campus after Fall Quarter?

Rising 2nd student – you will need to complete a contract in March, so that we can track your submission due to the residency requirement. You will be asked if you will be away for Fall 2025 due to an internship, study abroad, CFS, etc. to which you must say yes. You will need to complete a contract for Winter Quarter on or after November 1, 2025. You will be assigned a room by our office based on your preferences and space availability for Winter Quarter. 

I am student with an approved medical/disability or non-medical accommodation. Can I participate in Returning Student Room Selection?

  • Students with approved accommodations typically only participate in phase one – contracting between March 3 and March 15. After the priority submission deadline, these students will receive an assignment from our office that meets their approved accommodation and considers a student’s building preferences. 
  • Students with approved accommodations will receive an assignment via email, and they will have 24 hours to respond to the room assignment. They can either accept the room assignment or decline the assignment. If they decline the assignment, they will become eligible to participate in phase two – room selection either 3rd & 4th year student day or 2nd year days depending on their housing year. 

I am a rising 2nd year student. Can I form a roommate group with rising 3rd or 4th year students?

Yes, all returning students can form roommate groups with other rising 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year students. Please note that rising2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students cannot form roommate groups with incoming first year students. 

I have preferred roommates with whom I’d like to form a roommate group. How many people should be in our group?

  • Roommate groups vary in size depending on the room type that you are hoping to select during room selection.
    • Traditional Double Rooms – group of 2 
    • Traditional Triple Rooms – group of 3 
    • Double Room Suites (Schapiro & Kemper) – group of 4  
    • Single Room Suites – group of 3 (Kemper) OR group of 4 (Schapiro) 
 

I am a student who needs to live in All Gender Housing. If I form a roommate group will my group be eligible to live in All Gender Housing as well?

To select a room in All Gender Housing, the group leader must indicate a need to live in All Gender Housing on their housing contract. All members of the roommate group must indicate either a need for or be open to living in All Gender Housing. The key to successful room selection is that the group leader indicates the need for All Gender Housing, and all other members respond correctly. Please note that roommate groups will be audited to ensure the members of each group whose leader indicates a need for All Gender Housing meets these requirements. 

I am a student who needs to live in Continuous Housing. If I form a roommate group will my group be eligible to live in Continuous Housing as well?

To select a room in Continuous Housing, the group leader must indicate a need to live Continuous Housing on their housing contract. Other group members do not have to indicate such need, but please note that the group leader can only select a space in 710 Emerson, 1856 Orrington, or 1871 Orrington. If you are the group leader and you need Continuous Housing, please make sure your group is aware you will select a room in one of those three buildings. 

I am a current RA returning to the role, or I have been hired as an RA for the 2025-2026 academic year, do I need to participate in Returning Student Room Selection?

Students who are current RAs and returning to the role or have been hired as RAs for next year only have to complete phase one of the RSRS process. Phase one only requires students to sign their contract for next academic year. Students in this situation will not participate in phase two – room selection. 

I am rising 3rd or 4th year student, and I have no intention of living on campus next year. Do I need to take any action?

If you are a rising 3rd or 4th year student who does not plan to live on campus in 2025-2026, then no action is required. You will simply not participate in this process at all. Please be sure you participate in RSRS only if you do intend to live on campus next year. 

I am a rising 3rd or 4th year student can I only cancel through March 15, 2025?

Rising 3rd and 4th year students can cancel through March 15, 2025, without penalty and without requiring an eligible reason to cancel. Beginning March 16, 2025 rising 3rd and 4th year students can submit a cancellation, but it will only be approved if they meet the cancellation eligibility requirements found our website. Submitting a cancellation request is not an automatic release from your contract, nor does it guarantee a release; each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. 

I am rising 3rd or 4th student can I only select a room during 3rd & 4th Year student day on April 10?

  • Yes, rising 3rd and 4th year students can only select a select a room during 3rd & 4th Year student day on April 10. If you do not select a room on this day, your time slot will be cleared out. If you are in a roommate and your group leader is a rising 2nd year student, they can still pull you into a room during 2nd year student room selection (April 15-17). 
  •  If you do not select a room or get pulled into a room, you will be assigned by our office after room selection is over. You will be notified of your room assignment by April 28, 2025. 

If I am a rising 3rd or 4th year student, and I do not complete phase one by March 15, 2025, can I still participate in room selection?

Depending on when these students complete phase one, they may be able to participate in phase two – room selection. Typically, this will be reserved for students who sign a contract prior to the day that time slots are issued for room selection. If you sign a contract after the that date, our office will reach out to you with an update, and we will assign you a room based on space availability and your preferences after room selection has concluded. You should expect a room assignment email by April 28, 2025. 

If I select a room during room selection, and I wish to change rooms, how would complete this process?

You will need to wait until the entire Returning Student Room Selection process is complete. I am a student who currently lives in a fraternity, sorority, or Evans Scholars house, can I return to a residence hall for the next academic year?

Yes! You will need to complete both phase one and phase two of the RSRS process. You will be asked if you are affiliated with an FSL or EVS org, but you will also be asked if you are living in your house or not. You should respond “No” to move forward in the general room selection process. 

I am a student who lives in a residence hall or residential college, and I intend to live in my fraternity, sorority, or Evans Scholars house next year. What do I need to complete?

You will need to complete only phase one of the RSRS process. You will be asked if you are affiliated with an FSL or EVS org, and you will be asked if you are living in one of those houses or not. You should respond “Yes” to indicate you are living in your FSL or EVS house.
